Young Engineers Receive Trust Boost

Published: 13 Dec 2019

Five secondary school pupils have been given a boost to their studies after receiving engineering scholarships funded by the RAF Charitable Trust.

Nicholas Agathangelou, from Slough; Leonie Bottomley, from Shrewsbury; Colin Gass, from Motherwell; Tanishq Mehta, from New Barnet and Alice Radford, from Aberdeenshire were among more than 400 of the country's most talented students to receive coveted Arkwright Engineering Scholarships.

The awards, which were made at ceremonies in London and Edinburgh, offer students financial and mentoring support through their A-Levels and Scottish Advanced Higher qualifications, as part of a drive to inspire future leaders in engineering.

The successful applicants, who have all undertaken a rigorous, year-long application process, were invited to receive their accolade at ceremonies held at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in London and the International Conference Centre in Edinburgh.

Scholars are selected for their potential as future engineering leaders by assessing their academic, practical and leadership skills in engineering disciplines.

RAFCT Director Justine Morton said RAFCT was delighted to continue its partnership with The Smallpeice Trust, which administers the Arkwright Engineering Scholarships.

She said: "The RAF Charitable Trust is keen to give some of the most talented young people a helping hand as they embark along the path into engineering. This is just one of the many ways in which we are supporting exciting STEM outreach projects around the UK that are inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers and pilots."

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”
