Tornado Man Named as New Chairman

Published: 28 Jan 2020   updated: 29 Jan 2020

The RAF Charitable Trust (RAFCT) has announced that Air Marshal Philip Osborn will succeed Air Marshal Sir Kevin Leeson as Chairman of the RAF Charitable Trust.

Air Marshal Osborn, who recently retired from the RAF following a distinguished 30-year career, will join the Trustee Board in March.

The former front-line Tornado navigator was a former Station Commander at RAF Marham before going on to be Air Officer Commanding No 2 Group. His final appointment before leaving the Service last year was as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Air Marshal Osborn will become the fourth RAFCT Chairman since the charity was established in 2005. Sir Kevin, who succeeded Air Chief Marshal Sir John Cheshire as Chair in September 2013, is required to step down having served the maximum permitted period as a Trustee. The timing of the handover will mean Air Marshal Osborn will then be in the lead for preparing for the 50th Anniversary of RIAT in 2021.
