Flight Training

Since 2015, RAFCT has funded the Junior Rank Pilot Scholarship Scheme (JRPSS) where the flying clubs of the RAF (RAF Sport Aircraft) train young members of the RAF to fly. From this, a JRPSS Top Up Scheme was created, to allow those who excelled to work towards a Light Aircraft Pilot Licence (LAPL) and more recently, a Junior Officer Pilot Scholarship Scheme (JOPSS) has launched, to give young, non-aircrew officers a chance to gain a deeper understanding of aviation.

Training is a combination of theory, exams, and instruction in the air. It takes dedication and commitment to fit it in around busy roles within the RAF, but is very rewarding. There have already been 180 JRPSS awarded, 51 extended with the JRPSS TUS and 8 JOPSS.

To enhance the training, RAFCT has funded the purchase of two Tecnam aircraft over recent years.
