SWEDISH GRIPENS HEAD FOR THE AIR TATTOO

The aircraft are based with the F7 Skaraborgs Wing, at Satenas in south-central Sweden. The F7 wing is the centre for Gripen operations, including the training of pilots.
One aircraft will participate in the flying programme, the second will go on static display and the third will be a spare for the flying display.
In early April, Sweden deployed eight of its Gripen fighters to Sigonella air base in Sicily to join the expanding number of nations that have contributed to the NATO-led Operation Unified Protector over Libya. The Swedish aircraft were drawn from the air force's F17 wing.
The Gripen (Griffin) is a lightweight 4th generation, single-engine multirole fighter with a swing role capability enabling it to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions within a single sortie.
Air Ops Deputy Director Rob Windsor said: "Given their current operational commitments, we are particularly pleased that the Swedish Air Force is able to join us in July. Their Gripen display is one of the best fast jet displays in Europe."
