Dassault Falcon 20

The Dassault Falcon 20 is a twin-engine aircraft originally developed a business jet which has spawned an entire family of business jets of the same name, this includes the new RAF VIP jet, the Envoy IV which is a Falcon 900X. Over 500 Falcon 20s have been built and in 2012 one example became the first aircraft in the world to fly on 100% biofuel. The type has achieved significant military success where the Falcon is used as a VIP transport or an electronic warfare platform.

The Falcon 20 is a common sight at UK military airfields, previously being operated by Cobham until the company was sold and now operated by Draken International. The Falcon 20 has been used for over 30 years to provide electronic warfare adversary training to UK and NATO forces. Based at Bournemouth and Teeside, the aircraft provide adversary air, EW training, plus target banner towing for gunnery training. The Falcon’s carry underwing pods, the internals of which are classified that allow the aircraft to simulate any enemy threat or to specifically interfere with an allied radar system.

Draken will be providing one of their modified Falcon 20s on static display at this year’s Air Tattoo
