Fund's Seaside Respite Apartments 'Unveiled'

Published: 08 Dec 2015

HRH The Duke of Kent has formally opened two new seaside apartments at Princess Marina House, Rustington, West Sussex for RAF families funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund, the RAF Charitable Trust (RAFCT) and a number of other donors.

The complex features a three-bedroom and two-bedroom apartment finished to a very high standard, with facilities for disabled persons, situated next to the existing two seaside houses, intended for respite breaks for RAF families.

The two apartments are on the seafront, set in their own gardens and close to the shops. The existing houses have been in great demand since they opened in 2007 and the new apartments are expected to be similarly popular.

The project, from initial concept to completion and ready for occupation, has taken less than 12 months. During this time, more than £320,000 was raised by the Benevolent Fund with generous support from RAFCT, the April Fools Club's Falklands Yomp, the RAF Central Fund and other smaller donors.

At the opening yesterday, RAFCT Chairman Air Marshal Sir Kevin Leeson said: "The RAF Benevolent Fund is to be congratulated on the vision and execution of this project. The apartments are beautifully finished and will be ideal for RAF families to enjoy a quality and inexpensive break in this beautiful area of the south coast."
