Buccaneers Succeed in their Try for Trust Funding

Published: 08 Jan 2018

The RAF Brize Norton Buccaneers completed a successful international rugby tour thanks to a £3,000 grant awarded by the RAF Charitable Trust.

The team, consisting of 28 service personnel, travelled to New Zealand, to help encourage grass roots rugby within the RAF, improve espirit de corps and enhancing the profile of the RAF. It was also hoped the tour would build on the relationship with the New Zealand Defence Force in its 80th year, through a programme of community engagement.

Squadron Leader, Gareth Edwards said: "The Brize Norton Buccaneers are extremely thankful to the Trust for aiding the team financially, as without this funding, the overseas visit would not be able to go ahead."

The Buccaneers raised a significant amount of money through fundraising, sponsorship and personal contributions and the money awarded by the Trust went towards funding travel, accommodation and meals whilst overseas.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver
