Trust Puts Wind in Air Cadets' Sails

Published: 24 Jan 2018

A group of Air Cadets from around the UK discovered their sea legs during Ocean Youth Trust Scotland's sailing challenge thanks to support from the RAF Charitable Trust.

By the end of the week-long adventure aboard the 72ft ketch Alba Venturer, the youngsters had learned new skills including how to navigate, pilot the sail boat and work together as a team.

The adventure took place thanks to funding provided by the Ulysses Trust and a grant of £1,650 from the RAF Charitable Trust, together with the support and cooperation of Ocean Youth Trust (OYT) Scotland.

Flt Sgt Jacob Bullock, from 42F (King's Lynn) Sqn: "The voyage was fantastic. Meeting cadets from all corners of the UK provided an exciting prospect to develop a hard working team who trusted each other and who were able to overcome challenges. Some of these challenges included taking control of the vessel and sailing it over 30 miles. I'd recommend the experience to anyone."

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver
