Invited Nations Now Confirmed

Published: 14 Jan 2016

Update from Tom Gibbons, Head of Aircraft Operations

As we are now into 2016 this is a perfect opportunity to provide an update regarding those nations that have been invited to the Air Tattoo this year. The full list is now online HERE for you to view and we will begin providing updates when we have some news.

We had a hugely successful 2015 show with a total of 252 aircraft from 19 Nations attending the Air Tattoo which is a substantial number in today's challenging environment and one that we will be striving to surpass in 2016.

Following the 2015 Air Tattoo we confirmed the list of countries that we wished to invite to the next show and quickly followed up by sending our invitations to the respective nations' Chief of Air Staff. A comprehensive programme of visits to the many Embassies in London followed, with a total of 38 Embassy visits completed and the team receiving a very warm welcome from the respective Military and Defence Attachés responsible for the UK.  Overall we are hugely encouraged by the positive outlook from the Attaché community and the phenomenal response from our invitation letters with eight Air Chiefs already confirming their attendance, an unprecedented number of confirmations at such an early stage in the planning process. You can see the full process in the infogram HERE.

You will by now be aware that our theme for this year is 'The Next Generation - Inspiring Innovation' and we will also be marking the 75th Anniversary of the Air Cadet Organisation. Many of you are asking if we have an update regarding aircraft participation. Unfortunately I am unable to expand on this work at the moment but rest assured we are working hard with our international colleagues to bring the established favourites and attract some new and exciting participants to the Air Tattoo with plans underway to illustrate the theme in both the Air Tattoo flying and static displays. We will announce details as soon as we are able.

I hope this short update has been of interest and may I offer my personal thanks for your continuing support of the Air Tattoo and the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. More news to follow in the coming months!

Kind Regards
Tom Gibbons
Head of Air Operations
