French Team Goes Out With A Splash

Published: 10 Jul 2016

The Air Tattoo has paid a special tribute to a French Air Force display team which gave their final ever performance today (July 10).

Fire engines from the Air Tattoo's fire service, positioned themselves on each side of the taxiway and after the Ramex Delta team landed following their final display, were welcomed back by an arch of water as a mark of recognition and respect. This is traditionally done to mark a significant aviation milestone or event.

Based at Istres airbase in the South of France, the team, which flew two Mirage 2000Ns, put on their traditional crowd-pleasing and dynamic display for thousands at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
