Barnstormers Back for Daredevil Display

Published: 23 Jun 2016

The world's only formation wingwalking display team returns to RIAT 2016 with an amazing display of aero and acrobatics. The Breitling Wingwalkers will perform with three aircraft in the flying display, with a fourth taking part in the static line up.

A throwback to the 1920s and 1930s, where pilots travelled around the USA entertaining crowds in towns and cities with stunts and aerobatics, Vic Norman's team brings this spectacle back to life for modern airshows around the world.

Their 1940s Boeing Stearman biplanes have been extensively upgraded to include a swivelling rig and harness system to secure the wingwalkers, who experience speeds of 150mph and up to four 'G', and a 450 horsepower engine that provides extra power for the pilots.

Based at the former Royal Flying Corps airfield at Rendcomb just outside Cirencester, the Breitling Wingwalkers comprise a mixture of full-time and part-time pilots and wingwalkers, some of whom are airline pilots and school teachers in day-to-day life.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
