Global Tankers Gather at Air Tattoo

Published: 28 Jun 2016

The static aircraft line up has received a 'heavy' boost from the East thanks to the addition of another air-to-air refuelling tanker aircraft.

The Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) will be making a welcome return to RIAT with a KC-767J. The contingent, from 404 Hikotai at Komaki Airport, uses the KC-767J for passenger and cargo transport, as well as supporting the air force's frontline fighters with refuelling via the boom method (suitable for aircraft types such as the F-15 and F-16).

The aircraft will join the already announced USAFE KC-135R, RAF Voyager and RAAF KC-30 tankers in the static display, as well as the US Marine Corps MC-130J that will be taking part in a refuelling demonstration in Friday's flying display.

“It was an epic spectacle, as magical as anything you've ever seen in the West End, and as loud as anything you've ever heard at Knebworth.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Television Presenter

“All the thrills, excitement and noise of a Grand Prix, but in the air!”

Jenson Button, Formula 1 Racing Driver

“This is the best airshow!”

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Astronaut
