P-8A Poseidon - USA

Currently replacing the P-3 Orion in US Navy service, the P-8A Poseidon is a long-range multi-mission maritime aircraft that in particular performs the anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare roles. It is based on the commercial Boeing 737-800 airframe, and Boeing leads the industry team that has developed the aircraft. The US Navy has carried out several deployments with the P-8A, while the P-8I derivative is entering service with the Indian Navy, and the Royal Australian Air Force is another customer. US Navy and Indian Poseidons were engaged in the hunt for the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370. RAF aircrew involved in Project Seedcorn, an effort to maintain core skills in the maritime arena following retirement of the Nimrod fleet, have been deployed with the US Navy P-8A community.
