P 51 Mustang

North American P-51D Mustang

Joining our USAF 75th anniversary static display this year will be P-51D Mustang 'Frances Dell'. At the time of writing, this Germany based Mustang will be making its UK debut at this year's Air Tattoo after being purchased and transported from the US in March 2020. This specific Mustang did not experience combat during World War Two but instead spent a number of years in service with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Following its restoration through 2011 to 2014, the aircraft was painted as 'Frances Dell', a Mustang assigned to 84th Fighter Squadron of the 78th Fighter Group based at Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Frances Dell was originally flown by Lt Clark Clemmons whilst at Duxford and his original flying wings are mounted on a plaque in the cockpit.
