Fabulous Flanker Set to Make Return
Published: 18 Apr 2019 updated: 23 Apr 2019

The Ukrainian Air Force will be flying once again at the Air Tattoo, thanks to confirmation that their Su-27 is set to display for crowds at RAF Fairford in July.
Following two successful previous appearances in 2017 and 2018, the Ukrainians will be joining for the third year in a row to display their Russian-built frontline fighter, known in the West by its NATO codename, 'Flanker.'
The Su-27 was developed to combat Western opponents like the American F-15 Eagle in the late 1970s but remains a potent air superiority fighter into the 21st Century. The Air Tattoo became the first Western airshow to welcome Ukrainian participation when a Su-27 displayed at Fairford back in 1996.
