What You Didn't Know About the Air Tattoo

  • 29th Apr 2021
As part of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Royal International Air Tattoo, we've delved into our archives to create 50 bitesize nostalgic videos featuring some of RIAT's greatest moments as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
Our Bigglesbox videos, which launch this week, are wonderfully evocative 'Gogglebox-style' recordings, with Air Tattoo founder member Tim Prince, leading aviation expert, and longstanding volunteer Peter March, and the airshow's senior commentator Ben Dunnell sharing their memories of the world's greatest airshow.
From the early 1970s to the present day, the trio reveal their all-time Air Tattoo highlights as well as fascinating, behind-the-scenes stories surrounding some of the most iconic aircraft displays ever witnessed in the UK.
If you've ever attended an Air Tattoo or wondered what is involved in staging this unique aviation spectacle then you won't want to miss any of our 50 fabulous Bigglesbox videos (filmed pre-Covid) that we'll be releasing over the coming months.
In today's Bigglesbox the trio share their memories of the second Air Tattoo staged at Greenham Common in 1974. You can find out more about the history of the show in our Air Tattoo 50 book.
