Sikorsky MH 60R Seahawk

Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk

The SH-60 Seahawk series was developed from the UH-60 Black Hawk to meet the specific needs of the US Navy. Originally operated in the anti-submarine role aboard US Navy vessels, the SH-60 differed from the UH-60 with more powerful engines, folding blades, more fuel, weapon pylons and relocated landing gear to increase shipborne manoeuvrability. Several versions of the Seahawk have been produced including the MH-60R which entered service in 2006. The MH-60R features modern avionics, modern torpedoes and the ability to carry the Hellfire missile in order to engage small surface targets and provide fire support to US Marines when necessary.

The MH-60R replaced the Lynx as Denmark’s ship-borne anti-submarine and surface strike helicopter with 9 examples delivered between 2016 and 2018. The entire fleet is based at Karup.

The Royal Danish Air Force will be sending one of their Seahawks for static display at this year’s RIAT. This will be the first time a Seahawk has appeared at the Air Tattoo.
