ATR 42MP Surveyor
The ATR 42 is a twin-engine regional airliner which was co-developed by France and Italy during the early 1980s. The designation ‘42’ refers to the original passenger capacity of the type however further stretched versions have since been developed. Built in Toulouse, the ATR 42 along with the larger ATR 72 have proven popular with airlines and the types can be found around the globe. A limited number of surveillance versions have also been developed.
The Italian Coast Guard currently operate a fleet of three ATR 42MP maritime patrol aircraft based on the ATR 42-400 and -500 versions of this regional airliner. A fourth aircraft in the most up-to-date ‘Surveyor’ configuration was also ordered in late 2024 which will be based on the larger ATR 42-600 platform.
A single Italian Coast Guard ATR 42MP-400 will be appearing on static display at this year’s Air Tattoo to take part in our ‘Eyes in the Skies’ theme.
