Boeing 757-2K2
Developed as a successor for the Boeing 727, the Boeing 757 is a twin-engine narrow-body airliner originally called the 7N7 developed for short to medium long-haul passenger routes. First flying in 1982, over 1,000 757s were eventually built, and the type became a common sight on intercontinental routes following clearance in 1986. A VIP transport version of the 757 was also developed, and one is owned and flown by Donald Trump as his personal aircraft. The US Air Force also operates the 757 as the C-32 as a VIP transport, and it is often tasked with flying the Vice President.
The Royal New Zealand Air Force‘s 40 Squadron operate a pair of Boeing 757s as both passenger and freight transport. They deploy around the world supporting New Zealand’s military commitments whilst also providing the government with a long-range VIP transport. The aircraft were delivered in 2003 and in 2007 they were modified with a large cargo door and a strengthened floor to allow a heavier freight payload to be carried. During late 2024, the RNZAF began a tender to replace the Boeing 757 with a new type.
We are very grateful to the RNZAF for providing one of their Boeing 757s for static display at this year’s Air Tattoo.
