Pilatus PC 12NG

Pilatus PC-12NG

The PC-12 is a single-engine turboprop-powered passenger and cargo plane produced by Pilatus in Switzerland. The aircraft was developed in secret until its announcement in 1989 not to reveal that they had identified a new market for a single-engine high-speed aircraft. The PC-12 features a large cargo door allowing for easy access for passengers and loading cargo, over 2,000 have been built to date. The PC-12 has also found military success with several air forces including the Finnish and Irish who use it as a utility aircraft. The USAF are also a user of the type who call it the U-28A Draco in support of special operations forces.

Operated by 104 Squadron, the Irish Air Corps currently fly a fleet of four PC-12NG variants. The aircraft are configured with a large cargo door, have a pressurised cabin and can be operated in all weathers day and night. The Irish Air Corps currently use the type for logistics, an air ambulance, transport, intelligence and surveillance – they have seen heavy use in North Africa in support of Irish commitments in the area.

In support of our ā€˜Eyes in the Skies’ theme, the 1st Operations Wing of the Irish Air Corps are once again sending one of their PC-12NGs for static display at this year’s Air Tattoo.
