About the role:

The Event Control (EC) ensures, on behalf of the Operations Director, that RIAT runs safely and effectively, delivering to all its stakeholders, and supporting management with the provision of advice and assistance as necessary. 

The EC Night Duty Officer (NDO) is part of a team who provide out-of-hours cover for RIAT.  Specifically, they are responsible to the Operations Director for dealing with all problems and queries concerning RIAT during their period of duty, which is typically from 1900 to 0700 hrs.  

Main Responsibilities will include:

During their period of duty, the Night Duty Officers are specifically responsible for dealing with all technical and domestic matters, particularly those concerning the welfare of volunteers and participants.  Responsibilities include: 

  • Answering telephone enquiries from members of the public
  • Answering the RIAT Emergency Telephone and relaying emergency fire, medical and security calls to the RIAT emergency contacts
  • Maintaining contact with the 24-hour RIAT Security Force
  • Providing reasonable out-of-hours assistance to RIAT participants e.g. aircrew/groundcrew/ volunteers 
  • Notifying the Operations Director of any incidents or issues which may affect the following day’s event delivery
  • Maintaining the NDO call log and action list for handover to the EC

What commitment is required?

  • 8 days, specifically Mon 13 to Mon 20 Jul – during which four shifts will be undertaken

Travel:

In line with our sustainability commitment, we strongly encourage volunteers to car share wherever possible, and/or utilise public transport.

The following is in place to support our volunteers with any out-of-pocket expenses.   

  • Motor Mileage: Claim 45p per mile (maximum 315 miles) return mileage to RIAT and to encourage car sharing, an additional 5p per additional passenger may be claimed by the vehicle driver.   
  • Train Fare: Travel should be standard class; reimbursement will be made up to the maximum claim amount (£100.00) on the production of receipts, tickets, or confirmation email.
