In conjunction with our charity, The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust (RAFCT), we will Inspire young people, both inside the RAF and outside, to fulfil their potential in air, space, and technology.
About the role:
RIAT is the organisation’s biggest event each year and it is essential the message of RAFCT is communicated to visitors and contributors. With the other Trust Promotion Supervisors, you will manage a team of East Midlands University Air Squadron volunteers to engage the public in several ways.
The RAFCT teamwork across the showground, but are located in the centre of the showground, in Techno Zone® area. Techno Zone® is a dynamic, fun space featuring displays, interactive exhibits, presentations on our Inspire Stage, live competitions involving children throughout the UK who have taken part in RAFCT programmes throughout the year, as well as immersive attractions focussed on the world of science, innovation and technology. At its heart is the mission of the Trust, which aims to inspire the next generation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) professionals through a programme of events and year-round initiatives.
Main Responsibilities will include:
- Managing a team of 20+ UAS students, in particular liaising with the Lead Student on allocation of daily tasks
- Supervising the hanging (and removal) of RAFCT banners on fencing
- Supervising the collection of donations, primarily at the end of the day, as visitors leave exit points but also across the showground
- Ensuring areas of responsibility are covered during show days:
- RAFCT team in general
- Techno Zone® apron - specifically the Inspire Stage and Competition area
- Charity Day - Sunday of the show
- Some driving on the showground may be required in this role (note NOT on live airfield areas) - a driving licence would be beneficial. Vehicles will be provided.

Travel:
- In line with our sustainability commitment, we strongly encourage volunteers to car share wherever possible, and/or utilise public transport.
- The following is in place to support our volunteers with any out-of-pocket expenses
- Motor Mileage: Claim 45p per mile (maximum 315 miles) return mileage to RIAT and to encourage car sharing, additional 5p per additional passenger may be claimed by the vehicle driver
Train Fare: Travel should be standard class; reimbursement will be made up to the maximum claim amount (£100.00) on the production of receipts, tickets or confirmation email.
